Ending my love affair… #HealthyTipTuesday

So it’s time for us to separate!

I can’t take this toxic relationship anymore.

There’s just too much stress about you deceiving me.

Yup, I’m talking to you…… PLASTIC.

You might be convenient but my health is worth more!

This week I’m expanding on an earlier post about the dangers of chemicals (BPA, phthalates, etc) in plastic. In that post, I mentioned the importance of not heating food in plastic and today I’m suggesting that you get rid of it altogether! I know, I know, our lives just wouldn’t be the same without it…

You’re absolutely right! They would be so much better!!!

My MIL (mother-in-law) recently recorded a Dr. Oz episode about his 21 day plastic purge and saved it for me.  (Yeah we do corny stuff like that lol)

I’ve always been conscious of the environment but now that I have kids and am knowledgeable about healthier alternatives, I’m taking everything to the next level!

I probably won’t complete the actual 21 day challenge (I’d be setting myself up for failure) but I have been experimenting with easy alternatives to plastic. My favorite thus far is glass. It just looks really nice and I can use it over and over and over again.

See, I started one jar at a time. Remember my hoarding problem? When I decided to keep the glass jars that I would normally recycle, I got a little carried away of course.

Jar food 2

The possibilities are endless and the plastic elimination process is much easier than I thought.I just save, wash, and reuse! Now I’ll move onto other rooms of the house and also try wax paper for things that I would normally throw in plastic ziplock bags.

Won’t you join me?!

What would be the hardest plastic product for you to break ties with?

I switched to glass storage containers when I was pregnant. While I try to avoid heating food in the microwave, when I do, I use glass. It is heavy but it cleans so easy. Plus I have a sensitive palate and could take the plastic in my food. And, did I mention it’s hard to clean and rinse plastic well, lol.

Those are the exact reasons that I switched too. It makes life so much easier! I think I procrastinated before because I thought the glass would be too extensive but I found that its not true, especially if you find some good deals! Thanks for sharing Tasha!!
