If you follow me on social media, you got a glimpse of this yesterday…
2pm: My husband called and asked if he could invite a friend over for a business meeting and dinner. Since I ‘like’ this friend (j/k) I quickly said “Sure!”
It was then that ‘it’ hit me! How could we have company when the house was a mess?! For the last few weeks, I have been doing a much better job with maintaining the upstairs rooms that we use daily but the basement… now that was a completely different story!

Yeah, you see, I kinda screwed myself over with that agreement. Stuff was EVERYWHERE!
A few months ago, we decided that the basement would be my husband’s office and my craft room. As excited as I was about having a nicely organized craft room, I was slightly overwhelmed at the thought of taking this mess head on.
3pm: During that earlier phone call, we even discussed purchasing one of those room divider things. But after a quick Google search and a couple of phone calls later, I discovered that all of them had to be ordered in advanced! 😦
3:15pm: I made up my mind!
I would no longer put this off!
I would no longer promise my husband a clean room and not deliver!
I would no longer live another day with clutter! (Ok, that’s a stretch)
3:30pm: (Notice the 15 minute break? It took me that long to repeat those phrases to myself over and over)
So I bookmarked the page that I was on in my newest book on healthy eating, put on my boots, and got to work! To my benefit, Cadence was napping and Camden was overdosing on his favorite show, Paw Patrol! It was a win-win for everyone.
3:30pm – 5:00pm: I worked my butt off to organize, package, and store all of my JUNK! Some of it was nicely placed behind the sofa, a good amount went into the garage, and a small bit went into our car for recycling and thrift store donation.
5:00pm: With an hour and a half left before our friend arrived, Austin came home. He took a sneak peek into his new office and congratulated me on a job well done! He also helped me with the finishing touches on the rest of the house.
6:15pm – I snuck away to shower and change clothes. Miss Cadence actually needed a little TLC too but at that point it was her or me. And surprisingly, I chose ME! 🙂
6:30pm – He arrived. Because company is always on time, especially when it’s last minute and you’re rushing!
Of course something unexpected happened!
Can’t remember the exact time but he begged for orange juice, we gave in and immediately after, his face started itching and bumps appeared. Talk about bad timing! Austin rubbed peroxide on it and the itching stopped. We actually think he may have had an allergic reaction to vitamin C. But that’s a story for another post!
7:22pm: I finally started my dinner. Beef Stew was on the menu. I know you’re thinking, “Beef stew at 7:30 at night?” Yep! Thanks to my mom and this Pressure Cooker, I was confident that I could get it done.
It took 10 minutes to cook the meat. Another 15 to cut all of the ingredients. And about 30 to cook the veggies. Here was my process via pictures.
So there you have it folks. I did it. We did it. As we tell our 2 year, teamwork makes the dreamwork! Now, I think I’ll re-open my new book that I’ve been waiting to read.

**Here’s the recipe for the cornbread that I made. I used unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil for the oil portion and it gave it a nice coconut kick!
